Revolutionizing Education

Thank you for your interest in Cardinal Tech!

Our Echocardiography Program was designed by our team of educators and medical

imaging employers with nearly 100 years combined experience.

Cardinal Tech - Institute of Allied Health is accredited by the Office for Career and Technical Schools

The Echocardiography

The course itself is a mix of online, classroom, and onsite lab work. We have a mix of students from those coming straight out of high school, to those in the job market looking for a career change. Because of this, we cater to those looking to be able to learn sonography without the need to be in class 5 days a week. Each of our courses includes a required 1/2 day of onsite classes per week, lab hours, and a multitude of work able to to be done online. The Class & Lab portion of the course is 9 months long.

The Onsite

Our onsite lab houses multiple ultrasound systems, and is setup to replicate an exam room. Our students start working on the ultrasound system from Day One, as our goal is to provide an extensive amount of hands-on learning.

The Simulator

Hands-on learning is of the utmost importance to us here at Cardinal Tech, and so each student receives their own simulator during the course of the program. This simulator gives the student the ability to scan a multitude of test cases, all in the comfort of their home. It plugs directly into their school-issued computer and the screen comes alive with patient test cases, lectures, and so much more.

Studies have shown a 121% improvement in Basic Scanning Procedures, a 133% improvement in Window Interpretation, a 474% improvement in Window Identification, and a 545% improvement in Diagnostic Interpretation. Time and again, our extern sites praise us for how prepared our students are.

The Externship

Once the class/lab portion of the course has been successfully completed, students are then dismissed into the Extern portion of the course where 288 externship hours are required. Cardinal Tech has partnered with a multitude of local hospitals and physician offices in the Northwest Indiana and Indianapolis area. Students may also choose to locate their own externship site, in cases where an opening is not immediately available with our partner groups or in cases where students prefer to extern at a current employer.

Student Success

We are so proud of the successes our students are seeing. They have gained employment at locations such as Palos Hospital, IU Methodist, Community Hospital System, St. Catherines, and Riverside Hospital to name a few. Others have been excited to relocate to facilities in Michigan, Iowa, and Colorado for their new positions. Although Cardinal Tech doesn't provide job placement, we have been thrilled with the achievements of our grads in this area. We even have one graduate who has been invited to work for a time in Dubai with her new cardiology team!

"We here at Methodist Heart Station have had the opportunity to work with the great ultrasound program at Cardinal Tech. We've been able to develop a relationship that has brought us students we are confident in knowing they are prepared for the work they are engaging in from the moment they arrive."

- Adult AHC, Indiana University Health - Methodist Heart Station

"Because of the knowledge taught in the classroom, these students are ready to start applying what they've learned immediately. We have had the opportunity to help them take that knowledge and apply it to live studies. They have done a wonderful job with their externships."
